Business Ups and Downs
One of the strongest desires of most business owners is steady business – a steady client flow, steady sales. However, I hate to break it to you, this is just not the reality. Every business, like an EKG, has the regular “business ups and downs”. This proves that your business is alive – a flat line would be a bad sign!
Every business has its busier seasons and its quieter seasons. In order to be successful you will need to keep track of your unique ups and downs and plan for them. Having them take you by surprise again and again is only going to make you suffer. Look at the past few years and chart out to see if there is a pattern to your busy and quiet times.
What are you going to do when business is quiet?
Quieter seasons are a great time to work on business development, lead generation, and to catch up on all the things you wish you had time for. And sometimes it’s the perfect opportunity to take a break for yourself and gear up for the next peak.
And when the overflow comes?
For busier seasons, you need to have systems in place that enable you to deal with all the extra work. It can be backup staffing like contractors, upgradeable support, or a plan for your personal life that will allow for more available work hours in the day.
Creating solutions for these peaks and dips will lead to the stability you crave in your business so that you are set up to consistently do the right thing at the right time.
